Equality News Update: Work completed on houses for dementia sufferers in Elgin

A new housing development for elderly people – including specially built flats for dementia sufferers – has been completed in Elgin.

The houses, on Linkwood View in the town have been fully built, and will be ready for people to move in this month.

The properties have been developed by Hanover Scotland in partnership with Health and Social Care Moray, and is made up of 30 two-bedroom flats.

It is the developer’s second completed project in Moray, with work currently ongoing on a third on Haugh Road.

Some of the flats have been designed for people with certain conditions – with four wheelchair accessible flats and six flats specifically designed for people with dementia.

Elgin councillor John Divers welcomed the development, and added that he hoped it would allow elderly people to stay at home, rather than in a care home.
