The Fife Violence Against Women Partnership is encouraging Fifers to show their support and back an international campaign to challenge violence against women and girls.
The ‘16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence’ runs every year from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Councillor Ross Vettraino, Convener of the Environment, Protective Services & Community Safety Committee, which the Partnership reports to, explained: “Violence against women is an abuse of women’s fundamental human rights, including health and freedom from torture. Moreover, the physical, emotional and mental toll on the individual, which is brought about by violence, prevents full participation in society, as it limits access to resources and the ability to participate freely in activities such as work and education.
