Summary
This report by NatCen compares the changes in opinion on Brexit over the last 15 months in Scotland.
- Just as across Britain as a whole, a majority of voters in Scotland would ideally like Brexit to result in greater control of EU migration as well as the maintenance of free trade.
- Contrary to the presumption of the Scottish Government, most voters in Scotland are not keen to see Scotland remain in the single market, and thus continue freedom of movement
- Only if the UK is faced with a choice between ending freedom of movement and maintaining free trade will voters in Scotland be inclined to give a somewhat different answer from their counterparts south of the border
