Reported by Kingdom FM – the news we share raises awareness of equality issues being reported in the media.
Cases of child cruelty and neglect have doubled over the last five years, with 640 offences in Scotland in 2017.
The NSPCC children’s charity says it handled nearly 20,000 calls from across the UK to its helpline last year alone.
Volunteers are now calling for people to support the charity over Christmas when calls to Childline tend to increase.
Joanna Barrett, policy and public affairs manager for NSPCC Scotland said:
“Neglect can have severe and long-lasting consequences for children, and can also be an indicator of other forms of abuse.
“This is why it’s so important for anyone suspecting a child of being neglected to contact the NSPCC Helpline, so we can alert the authorities to quickly step in and help those in need.
