Equality News Update: Kingdom FM: ‘Urgent need’ for foster carers in Scotland, according to St Andrew’s Children’s Society.

The number of children in social care getting fostered over the past ten years has increased by 6 percent.

More children are needing fostered after going into social care according to the St Andrew’s Children’s Society.

This comes as the Scottish government’s figures show more than 5 thousand youngsters were fostered in Scotland in 2018, that is over 800 more than in 2008.

St Andrew’s Childrens Society is hosting four information evenings about fostering this week, with one taking place in Dunfermline.

Stephen Small, the director of the charity, said: “We’re taking part in Foster Care Fortnight this year because there is an urgent need for foster carers in Scotland.

“Every day we receive calls from local authorities who are looking for loving and safe homes for vulnerable children and we can only help a handful of them.
