What is the Equality Pathfinders Award?
Equality Pathfinders are organisations (including teams within large organisations) taking part in a free, voluntary and non-competitive recognition scheme leading the way in making Fife a fair, equal and inclusive place to live, work and study.
It reflects Fife Centre for Equalities’ approach of mainstreaming Equality and it is a unique award in that it:
- Provides a structured and adaptable workforce development programme
- Applies across all protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010
- Is non-competitive, inclusive and readily achievable
There are three successive levels of the award:
- Bronze – demonstrating compliance with the Equality Act 2010
- Silver – demonstrating positive action
- Gold – demonstrating best practice
Each award is structured as to build on the achievement of the previous award and requires participants to demonstrate a more significant and lasting contribution to promoting Equality and Diversity. We will also co-produce the Gold+ Award with organisations that go above and beyond expectations in inclusive practice and take the lead in creating and delivering further training.
We advise participants (but do not limit) to aim for an award level matching the number employees in an organisation, i.e. Bronze for 1-5 employees, Silver for 1-250 and for Gold 1-500. We consider this a fair target as the bigger the staff team, the more important it is to invest in equality and diversity practices.
Why take part?
The Equality Pathfinders is a training and development programme that is balanced and equitable. It is a solid foundation for fair and inclusive practices based on equality and human rights principles and does not prioritise one equality group in relation to another.
The programme is also adaptable and complements specialist modules or frameworks such as Disability Confident, Living Wage etc. As the Equality Pathfinders scheme is non-competitive, participants are not ranked on a scoring system. The ‘winners’ are the staff team and service users making equality a reality.
Above all, it is easy to take part. The Bronze award requires basic Equality and Diversity policies and if you have this in place already, you are likely to be eligible for the Bronze Award:
